SpurUp
Innovation Engine
SpurUP is developing a comprehensive suite of technical & digital solutions designed to simplify the complexities of climate-neutral development. These tools will empower users to make smarter, faster, and more sustainable decisions. The SpurUP solutions will be tested and deployed in the project’s 3 Living Labs.
Technical Infrastructure
SpurUP will deploy state-of-the-art net-zero technologies to decarbonize industrial processes and optimize resource loops in peri-urban zones.
Solar Thermal Systems
This system utilizes Parabolic Trough Technology (PTC) with curved glass mirrors that accurately track the sun to harness solar energy. It heats a Heat Transfer Fluid (HTF) to produce steam for industrial processes at temperatures up to 400°C and pressures of 10 to 20 bar. Operating autonomously, this solution aims to achieve a 100% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions for the corresponding energy produced compared to conventional fossil fuels.
A highly efficient, containerized plant that produces synthetic e-methanol by combining captured CO2 with green hydrogen through catalytic hydrogenation. Functioning as an advanced Carbon Capture and Utilization (CCU) system, it mitigates CO2 emissions by minimizing reliance on external, carbon-intensive energy sources for fuel production.
This technology train combines customized pre-treatments, membrane distillation, and post-treatment technologies to extract ultrapure water from treated municipal wastewater. It evaluates the removal of suspended solids and micropollutants to meet the strict water quality requirements for electrolyzers, thereby conserving freshwater resources during green hydrogen production.
Digital Suite
Our digital tools will provide the “brain” for these technical systems, ensuring they are efficient, secure, and guided by community needs.
A user-friendly mobile application designed to enhance community participation in urban planning. Going beyond traditional tools, it incorporates interactive maps for visualizing interventions, augmented reality components for an immersive experience, and structured processes for the collaborative drafting of initiatives to design sustainable, low-emission urban expansions.
A centralized, interoperable platform that automatically collects, processes, and organizes datasets from across SpurUP’s digital ecosystem. It provides decision-makers with interactive data visualization dashboards, a collaborative document library for best practices, and decision-support tools tailored for non-technical stakeholders like municipal officers and policymakers to drive the green transition.
A digital tool that runs large-scale dispersion simulations to identify the most and least impacted geographic areas in peri-urban zones. By incorporating real sensor data into its modeling, its intuitive design empowers urban planners and non-technical experts to prioritize environmental improvements and assess the direct effects of interventions on air quality and public health.
A dedicated digital service designed to streamline access to financial resources for sustainable development projects. The tool consolidates information from various funding sources, such as EU grants, national funds, and private investments, providing stakeholders with real-time updates on funding availability, criteria, and pathways to secure investments.
An advanced suite of digital tools utilizing artificial intelligence and data analytics to optimize energy use, support circular economy practices, and enable sustainable manufacturing. It provides industries with real-time analytics for predictive maintenance and operational efficiency while supporting data-driven governance.
An industrial resource-sharing marketplace designed to optimize production capacity and logistics. It enables a decentralized approach where industries can dynamically share manufacturing resources, supporting circular economy practices, reducing material waste, and lowering operational emissions.
An integrated web-based platform that combines real-time environmental threat detection (REACT) with vulnerability and risk assessment (SERVE). By integrating wearable sensors, GIS, and IoT data, it provides real-time monitoring of key indicators and generates intuitive visual risk heatmaps of vulnerabilities, such as greenhouse gas emissions and hazardous waste. This unified environment supports dynamic scenario analysis, enabling stakeholders to prioritize risks, simulate the impact of sustainability interventions, and make faster, data-driven decisions.
A digital ecosystem designed to accelerate the decarbonization of peri-urban industrial districts by integrating energy efficiency strategies, renewable energy adoption, and smart infrastructure planning. It features real-time digital mapping to identify Renewable Energy Communities (RECs), optimizes charging stations for EV fleets, and provides tailored carbon reduction strategies for businesses.
The intelligent, AI-powered digital backbone supporting SpurUP’s technological solutions. It enables multi-cloud interoperability, real-time data processing, and automated deployment pipelines (CI/CD) to ensure seamless, secure, and highly resilient operations for industrial symbiosis, energy efficiency systems, and net-zero initiatives across the Living Labs.
